Hibernation in your PC has both uses and advantages. If you have frequent power cuts and your UPS offers less battery backup then you can enable Hibernation mode on your PC which allows you to quickly save a copy of everything in your PC memory (RAM) onto your hard drive before it shuts down.
As I said Hibernation on your PC has advantages and disadvantages, the advantage being your PC is returned to what you have previously when you ON it and the disadvantage being that it hold everything in memory, so its size is same as that of installed system memory. Hiberfil.sys is the location on your PC where the hibernation data is stored in the root folder of your hard drive.
- Click on Start and then type CMD in the search box.
- In the search results list, select command prompt and open it.
- In the command prompt type powercfg -h off and then press ENTER.
- Type exit and then press Enter.
Now this will disable hibernation and will remove hiberfil.sys file from your system.
To disable hibernation in Windows 7, you have to go into Power Options and then click on Change plan settings.
